The ‘trike’ concept refers to providing two wheels in front and one
at the back, thus making possible an extra seat and reverse mechanism in
scooters for the physically challenged.
A team of five engineering students has developed a
prototype of a ‘Reverse Trike’ for physically challenged people as part
of their final year project. The ‘trike’ concept refers to providing two
wheels in front and one at the back, thus making possible an extra seat
and reverse mechanism in scooters for the physically challenged.
The team comprises final year mechanical engineering students Naveen G. Anand, S.T. Subin, Krishnakanth, N. Arun Kumar, and R. Rohit Chandran of Mohandas Engineering College, under the guidance of G.R. Adarsh, a faculty of the college.
“We watched the difficulty in the body positions of the differently abled, while riding a conventional scooter designed for them. The prototype cost around Rs.40,000,” said a team member.
