No helpline centres in TS - Hyderabad

In a major blow to nearly 22,000 students, who appeared for the AP Eamcet from Hyderabad, will have to go to either Vijayawada or Guntur for counselling to begin from Friday as no helpline centre has been set up in Hyderabad.

Interestingly, except third and ninth rank, all the ranks under top 10 were bagged by Telangana students. Out of 1.6 lakh students who appeared for the test as many as 1.3 lakh candidates qualified for the engineering stream.

AP Eamcet counselling officials alleged that the Telangana government did not allow AP to set up helpline centres in Telangana for students who have qualified in the test. “Telangana government locked down the Sanketika Vidya Bhavan and did not allow us to function from the place. We have already written a letter to the Telangana government, but our efforts proved futile,” said an official, who is involved in AP counselling process.

It may be worth mentioning here that both States’ education ministers decided to constitute a committee for hassle-free counselling and the Telangana government assured help to its counterpart. The AP government officials, however, said the Telangana government did not pay any heed to their requests despite sending their nominees for constitution of the committee.

As announced earlier, the counselling will commence with certificate verification from June 12 to 20. The government has arranged 34 helpline centres across 13 districts in Andhra Pradesh. Candidates with NCC, sports, and physically-challenged categories have to visit the Government Polytechnic College, Vijayawada. Other candidates, who qualified in the test, can get their certificates verification done at the nearest helplines in their vicinity.
