In a significantly positive move, Chief Minister
Siddaramaiah has appointed 54-year-old K.S. Rajanna, a physically
challenged person, as Commissioner for the Disabled. Mr. Rajanna, who
lost both his legs and hands to polio when he was an 11-month-old child,
is a diploma holder in Mechanical Engineering. He has won accolades as a
sportsperson bagging the gold medal in the Paralympics in discus throw
in 2002 and a silver medal in swimming.
He started his own enterprise and provided employment to 350 persons, including the physically challenged.
Mr.
Rajanna, who served as general secretary of the Lingarajapuram Block
Congress Committee here, had been recommended for nomination as
councillor in the then Bangalore City Corporation during the tenure of
S.M. Krishna.
