There are many women organizations in the city to empower and
motivate women. But Samaskruthi, a women's organization here, works for
mentally retarded children and that's a first for the city.
Samskruthi president Sridevi S Bhopalam said, "On Wednesday, we're
adopting a mentally challenged child Aishwarya, who is 13 years old,
from Swasahaya Samuchhaya. As she lost her father and her mother is not
employed, we decided to take care of her and educate her. We plan to
adopt two more mentally challenged children, provide all basic
facilities and educate them," she added.
Deputy director of the police academy Dharani Devi Malagathi said,
"Earlier, women wouldn't get an education and didn't pay attention to
higher studies. Now, girl students have many choices and some choose
even tough subjects like automobile engineering."
She added, "I think women should be engaged in work, fight for their rights and the society should empower them. In the early days, employment was not a problem but today it's a problem, especially for women."
The
assistant director of the department of Kannada and culture (Mysore)
Nirmala Matapathi said, "There are many members from other states. The
organization will hold sessions to teach them to speak, write and read
in Kannada in 30 days. Earlier, if a woman did creative work, men would
start doing it too to show they can do better than the women. In this
association, I can see the unity among women and all other women
associations should emulate them."
Variety fare
