50 Couples get hitched in eco-friendly mass marriages organised by Inner Wheel Club of Delhi Midtown

The Inner Wheel Club of Delhi Midtown under an initiative against dowry and to provide the support to the under privileged girls conducted a mass marriage ceremony where 50 couples tied the nuptial knot. The function was attended by more than 300 guests including family members and friends.

While all the Hindu couples came from Delhi some brides and bridegrooms came from other regions i.e. Gurgaon, Ghaziabad, Faridabad, Bareilly, Hapur, Varanasi etc. Among the brides two were widows and married again whereas one of them is physically challenged. The simple ceremony began with traditional Jaymala. The ceremony was marked by austerity as the newly-wed couples along with their families, friends and relatives took lunch from the community kitchen provided by the Inner Wheel Club of Delhi Midtown.

All the 50 couples were given the counselling on family planning before the function begins and the registrar was also present there to give the marriage certificates on the spot to all the couples. Inner Wheel Club of Delhi Midtown also provided the basic items to the couples like bed, gas cylinders, blankets, bedsheets, utensils etc.

Speaking on the occasion, Mrs. Asha Walia, District Chairman said, “We feel proud facilitating it for financially weaker section and we also take it as our responsibility towards the society. We always try to reach out to the maximum people with all possible support. These marriage ceremonies are all about having a lifetime relations with all these couples. We will be providing other helps to them in future as well.”

Sharing her experience about the ceremony, Mrs. Neena Jain, President, Inner Wheel Club of Delhi Midtown said, “It’s difficult to express the feelings during such marriage ceremonies as we feel connected like a family with all the couples. We also make sure to fulfil our responsibilities of providing them the family planning counselling, marriage certificates, basic items for a small family so they do not face any issues in future. We also keep In touch with them and ensure a smooth and happy married life.”

Inner Wheel Club of Delhi Midtown has been conducting mass marriages from last 40 years and till now has done more than 150 such ceremonies. Dr. V. Mohini Giri, Chairperson, Guild For Services has been very helpful in finding the couples and giving them regular counselling.
