their plans of vacation in order to help a physically-challenged
accident victim. On April 22, retired engineer Ramesh Abhyankar was
travelling on his three-wheeler near Neelayam Talkies. A speeding
motorcycle rammed into his vehicle following which Abhyankar suffered
head injuries and bruises on his body and was lying unconscious on the
road.
It was then that Farukh Khashmi and his friend Rajesh Kumar, who were heading to Lonavla along with three other friends on their motorbikes, witnessed the accident and stopped to help the profusely bleeding Abhyankar lying on the road. Rajesh said, “When we reached Neelayam Talkies, an unidentified motorcyclist overtook us, hit Abhyankar’s three-wheeler and sped away. Farukh and I immediately hired an auto and took him to a nearby hospital. Unfortunately, the doctor there was not available.”
He added, “We then shifted him to Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital. The doctor gave some primary medical aid and recommended a CT scan on him. By then Abhyankar had regained consciousness and gave us the contact number of his kin and informed them. By the time the family members reached the hospital, the CT scan had been conducted.”
Abhyankar’s daughter Aarti Gokhale said, “For us, the two youths are angels. They not only helped my injured father but also paid the fees for the CT scan before we could reach the hospital.” While Rajesh works with a Hadapsar-based Knowledge Process Outsourcing, Farukh is an engineer with Infosys.
