Pakistan committed to protecting rights of disabled people: Prime Minister

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has said that Pakistan is committed to ensure the rights of vulnerable segments of society so that people with disabilities can be protected during disasters and emergencies.

In a message on the occasion of "International Disaster Awareness Day Living with Disability and Disasters" being observed on Sunday (today), the prime minister said his government believe that such persons can also greatly contribute towards sustainable development and hoped that observance of this day would further illuminate the potential of people with disabilities.

He said our disaster and risk management plans and policies will remain inconclusive till the element of disability is included in disaster risk reduction processes. He stressed that we must focus to integrate persons with disabilities in the formulation of policies meant for disaster risk reduction.
