Differently abled children exhibit their talent : Mangalore

Dakshina Kannada District-in-Charge Minister B Ramanath Rai inaugurated the district-level sports meet- 2013 for differently abled, jointly organised by the district administration, Zilla Panchayat, Youth Service and Sports Department, Saanidhya Residential School, Sports and Cultural Academy for Differently Abled (SACADA) at Mangala Stadium in Mangalore, on Monday.

Zilla Panchayat President K Koragappa Naika who hoisted the event flag and received guard of honour from athletes said that the government facilities are reaching only about 70 per cent of differently abled children. Available facilities should reach all the needy so that it would help in their welfare.



ZP Vice President Rithesh Shetty said that a mere sympathy will not help differently abled in their future. They need motivation from others. Cultural and sport activities will help them to come to the mainstream of the society, he said.



About 220 special athletes from 12 special schools of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Kodagu districts including Chethana Society for Disabled, Lions Special School, Christharaja Navachethana School, St Marry’s Special School, Alva’s Special School, SDM Mangalajyoti School, Asha Nilaya Special School, Manasu Special School, Chethana Special School, Swastha, Saanidhya Residential School and Bethani Jeevanajyothi Special School are taking part in the meet. Events like 100, 200 and 400 metre race, high jump, long jump and shot-put were held as a part of the meet.
