National deaf cricket championship from Dec 1 : LAHORE

National Deaf cricket championship will be played here from December 1 with a record number of sixteen teams taking part in the tournament.“It is for the first time in the history of deaf cricket in Pakistan that as many as sixteen teams drawn from all parts of the country will be showcasing their talent in the premier activity”, said Irfan Miraj, Secretary, Pakistan Deaf Cricket Association and manager, Zaheer ud din Babar,while talking to APP here on Thursday.

They said all sixteen matches will be played at different grounds of the
city and various sub-committees have been formed to review the arrangements.


The contesting teams have been placed in eight groups and each team will 
play three matches in its respective group on league basis.
“We are striving for the cause of deaf cricket in Pakistan and the participation of numerous teams strongly endorses our views that deaf cricket is on the fast track of progress in the country”,.

“Under our game development programme we are engaging deaf cricketers in 
competitive cricket activities,they said.


Through such efforts we have been able to widen the base of our cricket 
for cricketers with impaired hearing.”



They said they were organizing the championship from their own
resources,adding that so far neither the Pakistan Cricket Board nor any business house has responded to the requests for shouldering the burden of this regular annual activity.

The formation of the Groups is: (Group A), Lahore, Multan, Khairpur,  Hafizabad. (B) Muzaffargarh, Gujranwala, Rahim yar Khan  Jehlum. (Group C), Sialkot, Okara, Narowal, Sargodha. (Group D), Bahawalpur, Jacobabad, Dadu, Sukkur,(Group E), Rawalpindi, Quetta, Shikarpur, Faisalabad.(Group F), Gujrat, Peshawar, Larkana, Sahiwal. (Group G), Islamabad, Haripur, Hyderabad, Khanewal, (Group H), Karachi, Sheikhupura , Dera Ismail Khan and Kohat. Islamabad is the defending champion and close competition is expected from the contestants.


The Association officials expressed their gratitude to various cricket  clubs for lending support by organizing matches at their grounds. The final will be played on Dec 7.
