229 alarm chain-pulling cases in 2 yrs : Mumbai

A whopping 229 incidents of chain-pulling have been reported in the Western and Central railways from January 2011 to June 2013.
Unauthorised entries in coach for the disabled have been forcing the physically-challenged commuters to pull the alarm chain.

An RPF officer said, “This not only delays local trains but also paralyses the timetable of outstation trains running on the same tracks.”

He added they can’t take action against the offenders on humanitarian grounds.

Senior divisional security commissioner, RPF, WR, Rajendra Rupnavar said, “We met a delegation of physically-challenged commuters and requested them to call WR helpline 1311 instead of pulling the chain.”

President of Disability Advocacy Group Jitendra Karelia said, “We are forced to pull the chain because physical-challenged commuters can neither enter nor alight due to the unauthorised passengers blocking the entrance. RPF personnel should be posted in front of our coaches to restrict the entry of such people.”

Alok Bohra, divisional security commissioner of RPF, CR, said the disabled in CR trains should call on 1275 and 9004411111 for assistance.
