Encourage persons with disability to have normal life, says Peseyie - KOHIMA

Asserting people were compassionate about persons with disability (PWD) yet did not know how to help them, minister social welfare Kiyanilie Peseyie Saturday said Nagas needed to accept such persons and encourage them to have normal life and allow them to actively participate in all activities of the society.

Peseyie was addressing a function, organized to distribute wheel chairs, water mattresses and walking sticks to the differently-abled persons (DAP), under assistance to disabled persons (AIDP) scheme sponsored by ministry of social justice and employment, at State Academy Hall here.


Pointing out that every department has set aside 3% of fund for the disabled, the minister said the fund should be used for the disabled sector though 3% job reservation could not be fulfilled as unless children were educated and trained.


He said there was a dire need of education for differently-abled children by setting up of vocational training centres in every pocket.


Peseyie also said employment exchange should properly register and give detail for job vacancies.


The minister appealed to the Cherry Blossom Society, centre for children with special needs, to accept the challenges with fullest commitment in helping the people who were in need.


Nagaland disability commissioner Dr. Atha Vizol, who graced the occasion as guest of honour, highlighted the schemes and objectives for the various disabled persons like visually disabled, hearing disabled persons and mentally disabled persons.


Vizol assured to extend assistance and urged to contact disabilities office if any discrepancies or lack of quality as in terms of equipment supplied.


Also, joint secretary social welfare Nyusietho Nyuthe, who was also guest of honor, said government needed to ensure that appropriate environment was created for the differently-abled children till they attained 18 years of age.


Indian Red Cross Society Nagaland Branch (IRCSN) general secretary Zakie Kire, Secretary NAPAD Kapochuo Naleo and others also spoke at the fucntion.


Students from Cherry Blossom’s Society presented songs and dance while the headmistress Cherry Blossoms School delivered welcome address.
