To extend a helping hand to the differently abled, the Haryana
government plans to set up training centres in all districts at a cost
of Rs. 150 crore. Stating this at the
inaugural function of a vocational training centre set up at Bhai
Kanhaiya Ashram in Sirsa, member of Parliament Ashok Tanwar said the
centre was the second such centre of its kind in the northern India.
Set up at a cost of Rs. 15 lakh under
the Backward Regions Grant Fund Scheme, the centre would provide
training to the differently abled women in stitching, embroidery,
printing, pot-making, painting and weaving.
Tanwar said one such centre had been set up in Punjab and another being established by the Banyan Centre in Chennai.
Representatives of Bhai Kanhaiya Manav Seva Trust visited Chennai and the centre in Sirsa had been modeled on its pattern, he said.
"With a view to bringing the physically and mentally disabled persons into the mainstream, various schemes are being run both by the Centre and the state governments. People suffering from total disability are provided free transportation facility along with with one attendant in Haryana Roadways buses throughout the state," Tanwar added.
