Alagappa University has launched a University Resource
School for differently abled students to offer them three-fold services –
identification and early intervention services, educational services
and pre-vocational and vocational services.
Apart
from B.Ed., M.Ed and special education courses, the university has a
Centre for Multimodal Material Production for differently abled students
under the schemes offered by the State government to prepare teaching
learning materials for different categories of differently abled
students, a university release said here on Thursday.
Various assistive devices were available in the Resource School for the differently abled, it said. The school would admit different categories of differently abled students and assess their current level of performance with individualised educational plan designed for each student, the release added.
Along with educational services, physiotherapy is also given to students.
A team of multidisciplinary members such as special educators, psychologist, physiotherapist and speech therapist is engaged in this Resource School, it said.
Assistive devices such as Dr. Speech, Speech Therapy Basics, Jaws Softwares, Magic Screen Magnification Software, Scanners and Magnifiers, Braille Display, Braille Embosser, OCR Screen Reading Software and various teaching learning materials are available in the centre along with play materials.
The school has muscle stimulators, ultra sound, tens, basic therapy chairs, exercise materials required for physiotherapy for the differently abled students. Public are requested to avail these resources for the benefit of their disabled wards, the release said.
