Autism centre to expand with help of donors : Dubai

The Dubai Autism Centre (DAC) said on Monday that generous contributions from donors would enable it to expand services and recruit highly trained professionals to cater to the growing number of students in the coming years.

Mohammed Al Emadi, Director General of DAC, said generous contributions from patrons would allow DAC to pursue excellence and provide the best possible care for children with autism.

Al Emadi was speaking at a reception held to express the centre’s gratitude to Dubai-based philanthropist and businessman Siddharth Balachandran who had pledged Dh1.8 million for autism spectrum disorder cause.

Presenting Balachandran, Managing Director of Bumga Group, with a trophy in appreciation of his support, Al Emadi said at the event held at India Club that an increasing number of students on the waiting list was impelling DAC to increase the number of classrooms for the next academic year. The centre is also seeking to complete the new premises that can absorb most children on the waiting list, he said.

“We are glad to have Bumga Group as a supporter and an advocate for the autism cause,” said Al Emadi. Bumga Group is part of a strong core group of like-minded companies who are keen to give back to the society in which they operate.

Balachandran said it was imperative that specific conditions like autism are highlighted and supported in every way possible. “Children with autism can be successfully integrated into the mainstream with the help of good early intervention programmes, the like of which is provided by DAC. We are confident that DAC programmes will help students reach their potential and be active members of society,” said Balachandran.

“In the teeming megalopolis, that is Dubai, it is becoming increasingly important for individuals and companies to devote a part of their time and resources towards emotionally fulfilling pursuits like supporting societal improvement causes. We, at Bumga, have always supported deserving causes in the past and are proud to be associated with DAC,” said Balachandran.
