The Lahore High Court Tuesday issued notice to Chief Secretary Punjab and Provincial Council for Rehabilitation of Disabled, Secretary Social welfare and Secretary labour department on a petition filed for the registration of private establishment for creating jobs for disabled.

Justice Shujjat Ali Khan issued notice on a petition filed by Sheikh Inam Elahi Pervaiz through Muqtedir Akhtar Shabr Advocate, for enforcement of right of the disabled persons and implementation of Disabled Persons (Employment and Rehabilitation ) Ordinance 1981.

Earlier, the petitioner's counsel submitted before the court that the government of Punjab and concerned government officials are not registering the private establishment throughout Punjab, since the inception of the ordinance for the employment and rehabilitation of the disabled.

Such ignorance by the government officials over the rights of the disabled persons is affecting the employment and rehabilitation rights of the disabled persons in the province, he added.

Failure to register the private establishment has reduced the employment opportunity for the disabled persons throughout the province, he added.

He further submitted that after the introduction of 18th amendment in the Constitution of Pakistan, it has become sole responsibility of the government of Punjab to enforce the ordinance in the province of Punjab.

Muqtedir argued that his client is ready to furnish the list of private establishments with the concerned government department, if these establishments are registered it will create thousands of jobs for the disabled in the private sector.

He added that list comprise of companies registered with S.E.C.P, list prepared by Ministry of Industries and list maintained by Chambers of Commerce was provided to the concerned officials but they did not bothered to register these establishments.

The court after hearing the arguments issued notice to the respondents and sought reply within four weeks.
