Kalimpong police on July 21 arrested a 38-year-old man on charges of raping a 12-year-old mentally retarded girl child.
As per police sources, the victim, a minor from a village in Kalimpong, could neither hear nor speak.
Taking advantage of the girl’s disadvantage, the accused had entered into the house when she was alone, police said.
To her shock, the mother upon reaching home from field found the main door of the house locked from inside.
After she broke open the door, she caught the man redhanded, and screamed for public help.
No sooner did the scream reach the villagers, they came in hordes and beat up the accused.
Soon after a complaint was filed at the
police station, the accused was nabbed in a drunken state. He was booked
under Section 376 and the case is under investigation.
