Event On Disability in US

Event Details

Putting Persons with Disabilities in the Heart of Development:
Including Disability in Foreign Aid

Featuring: Esmé Grant, Disability Rights Program Manager at the U.S. International Council on Disabilities (USICD)

While there is currently no mention of disability in the Millennium Development Goals, they cannot be achieved without the full and effective inclusion of persons with disabilities. The World Bank estimates that disability is associated with 20 percent of global poverty. What has the U.S. done to mainstream disabilities in foreign aid? How have developing countries included disability in their development plan?

Sign language interpreters will be available.

Dinner will be served at the informal reception following the presentation, where Gallaudet University and Georgetown University students can network.

Speaker Bio: Esmé grant has worked furiously on the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) promotion within the U.S. and internationally, and on issues including disability inclusiveness in foreign aid. She is currently the Disability Rights Attorney and Program Manager at USICD, where she educates the American disability community and Congress on disability inclusion in foreign affairs.
