Tension during protest by differently-abled

Hundreds of members of the Vikalangula Hakkula Porata Samiti (VHPS) on Monday laid a siege to the Prakasam Bhavan here seeking a fair deal.

A high drama was witnessed at the collectorate with the activists, joined by the Madiga Reservation Porata Samiti(MRPS), blocked entry into the CPO conference hall, which was overflowing with petitioners on the grievance day, to press their demands. Police had a tough time in regulating the huge crowd with the restive activists staging a sit-in protest. MRPS State General Secretary Usurpatti Brahamaih, joining the protest, said the MRPS would stand solidly behind the disabled agitating for justice. The activists pressed for showing possession for the house sites sanctioned for 424 disabled persons in 2008.

“We have been running from pillar to post in vain to get possession of the land,” lamented VHPS State vice-president A.Suresh Babu. The protesters, including VHPS district general secretary J. Balaji, pressed for earmarking land in Aluru for them without any further delay.
