Sports meet for differently abled children gets underway in Mangalore

Saanidhya Panama Kreeda Mahotsava – 2013’ state-level sports meet for the differently abled was formally inaugurated on Friday at DK district Zilla Panchayat School grounds at Shaktinagar on the outskirts of the city.

B Janardhana Poojary, Former Union Minister, had inaugurated the torch relay of the sports meet at Kudroli Gokarnatheshwara Temple in Mangalore on Thursday.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Poojary said that identifying talent in special children is a divine task. “Such an attempt is a model one, not just for our district but for the state as well. Special children also have emotions. We must learn to respect their feelings and them”, Mr. Poojary said.
A procession comprising of participating teams, was then taken out.
The sports meet is being held as part of the decennial year celebrations of Saanidhya Residential School and Training Centre for the Mentally Challenged, Mangalore, in collaboration with Panama Corporation Ltd, Mangalore and Sports and Cultural Academy for Differently Abled (SACADA).
Sports competitions for those affected by autism, cerebral palsy, dementia and specific learning problems are being held as part of the sports meet. Over 700 differently-abled children from 40 special schools in 16 districts of Karnataka are participating.
