Equal employability

Persons with disabilities tend to experience high unemployment and have lower incomes in comparison to persons without disabilities. They are often relegated to low-level , low-paid jobs with little social and legal security or are segregated from the mainstream labour market, according to the International Labour Organization (ILO).

With this in mind, NASSCOM Foundation , in partnership with Wadhwani Foundation, recently organised a multi-stakeholder recruitment drive for persons with disabilities at Vocational Rehabilitation Centre in Karkarduma in the Capital.

Through this job fair, NASSCOM Foundation aims at connecting with IT-BPM companies on their HR agenda and promote employment of persons with disabilities, not on the basis of compassion or reservation, but their capabilities and qualifications.

Rita Soni, CEO, NASSCOM Foundation said, "There is a market failure, which is not simply an economist's abstract observation, but one which impacts real people's lives: employment for persons with disabilities is challenging. The NASSCOM Foundation Disability Initiative bridges these market inadequacies by bringing together progressive companies, training institutions and government service providers."

NASSCOM Foundation, the development arm of IT-BPM association NASSCOM, is working towards creating a sustainable ecosystem to mainstream employment for persons with disabilities and making ICT accessible to all.
