M Phil in Clinical Psychology : CHENNAI

The National Institute for Empowerment of Persons with Multiple Disabilities (NIEPMD) will soon introduce an M Phil programme in Clinical Psychology with special focus on issues related to children with disabilities.

The institute is functioning under the aegis of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, at Muttukadu near Chennai. A senior official of the institute said that this is a first of its kind in the country with regard to emphasis on children with disabilities.

“We have received necessary consent from the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI). We are awaiting approval from the University of Madras for commencing the course,” Neeradha Chandramohan, Director of NIEPMD, told CE. The course is likely to be launched by September, she added.

The official was speaking on the sidelines of the inauguration of a three day national training on deaf     -blindness - communication assessment of children at the institute recently. The curriculum of the two year programme would comprise subjects relating to accessing intelligence quotient, development quotient and parent counselling. “Six students would be admitted every year. The minimum educational qualification for the M Phil programme is MA (Psychology),” she said.
