Min proposes 'Vishisht Jan' term for people with disabilities : Varanasi

The UP minister of state for PWD and irrigation Surendra Patel said people with physical disabilities should not be called disabled and instead be called 'Vishisht Jan.' He said a proposal in this regard would soon be approved by the cabinet and VidhanSabha and would be sent to the Centre for approval.

While addressing the closing function of the three-day examination camp for people with disabilities organized by the Artificial Limbs Manufacture Corporation of India (ALIMCO), Kanpur, under the Assistance to Disabled Persons (ADIP) Scheme on Saturday, Patel said the state government has been running different programmes for the welfare of people with disabilities. During the three-day programme, the camps were organized at Araziline Harahua, and CTE College campus at Orderly Bazar. A total of 235 persons were registered after examination during the camp. They would be provided with different equipments like wheelchairs, tricycles, hearing aides, walking sticks and others on September 11. Besides, 40 such persons were also given passes for travelling in roadways buses and trains.
