CM Launches Phase-II of ‘Sneha Vahanam’ Project : KAKKANAD

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on Thursday said that the State Government would give `10 lakh as cash award to the Ernakulam district panchayat if it provides three-wheelers to all the physically challenged persons in the district.

He was speaking after inaugurating the phase-II of the Sneha Vahanam project initiated by the Ernakulam district panchayat here.

“It is my ambition to provide three-wheelers to all the physically challenged persons. During the ‘mass contact’ programme, a lot of requests had poured in urging the panchayat to use its Plan fund for the project. It is a great initiative from the part of the district panchayat to provide vehicles to disabled persons. If they provide vehicles to all such persons in the district the government would immediately release `10 lakh,” Chandy said.  He further noted that the government would give `10 lakh to the other districts also if they distribute three-wheelers to physically challenged persons.

“They need the care and support of the government. However, most of them are reluctant to come forward. The government will extend all the possible help to physically challenged persons. The local self governments should also come forward to help them.

“The Ernakulam district panchayat will set a model for the other districts,” Chandy added.

The Chief Minister also inaugurated the FIGHT project of the district panchayat, which aims at providing support to differently-abled children in the district after their school education.  As a part of the project, ten schools will be equipped to provide vocational training to differently-abled children.
