To help people get necessary information for
constructing toilets in their houses, a round-the-clock dedicated phone
numbers were launched here on Friday.
As part of the
‘Eradication of Open Defecation’, project funded by Tamil Nadu State
Planning Commission, LEAF Society here has launched the ‘Dial-a-Toilet’
project. The phone numbers are: 81442-23969, 81442-26314.
Details
on designing toilets, material requirements, construction methods,
availability of qualified masons, estimates, loan, usage techniques,
promotions of kitchen gardens using waste water, and designs for
physically challenged toilets will be available at these numbers.
The
project was inaugurated by P. Selvarajan, Head of Division, State
Planning Commission of Tamil Nadu in the presence of S. L. Sathiya
Nesan, Director LEAF Society and officials from District Rural
Development Agency.
Under the State Balance Growth
Fund scheme, Namakkal, Villupuram, Tiruchy, Pudukottai, and Dindigul
districts have been selected for implementing the pilot project aimed at
eradicating open defecation.
Mr. Sathiya Nesan told
The Hindu
that LEAF Society is implementing the project through DRDA in Namakkal
district. The aim was to construct 15,000 individual latrines by 2015
and reduce open defecation in 24 village panchayats in a span of three
years.
