‘Rising Sun’ centre will assist young handicapped adults also
A new centre for special need children and young adults ‘Rising Sun’ has been opened in Fujairah with the support of community and the emirate’s Government.
“There are many special need children living in the Emirates of Fujairah and they are in need of a training centre. We have been blessed with an Amiri decree to start ‘Rising Sun’ as a non-profitable organization with the active support of the community and rulers,” said Jessica Bladh, General Manager of ‘Rising Sun’.
She said while there is a federal government supported centre for special needs in Fujairah, many children could not be accommodated there.
The newly-built centre offers services for children and young adults with special needs such as assessment, behaviour-, speech-, occupational and physiotherapy, special education and early intervention programme, fitness activities, art, music and some vocational training, family counselling and mother’s support group.
Upon assessment and registration for any new student, an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) is developed according to the disabilities, special needs and abilities of each individual.
She said ‘Rising Sun’ is a special needs centre to provide a safe venue and expertise for children and young adults and help them develop physically and mentally.
“We help them grow up to their best self through regular, individually suited support for their body and mind,” she said.
The staff members consist of professionals for each respective area of expertise and therapy form of various nationalities and languages. In addition, a volunteer programme is incorporated in the daily and weekly activities. As the establishment is a non-profit organization, its operation relies on the support of the community for financial support, volunteer work, providing of skilled manpower and various services, the General Manager added.
