R.
Sanyasi Sairam, who is visually challenged, has been making rounds of
government offices in Berhampur, Cuttack and Bhubaneswar since four
years to release his deceased father's (a former employee of the Postal
Department, Aska Division, Berhampur) pension money but to no avail.
As his last hope, Sairam has approached the Zee Kalinga Helpline Team and iamin for help.
Sairam
informs that his father R. Bishwanath died in 2010 while he was in
service with the Superintendent of Police, Aska Division.
He
continues, "As per rules physically handicapped family members are due
to receive the pension on the death of an employee while in service. It
has been four years now but we have not received the pension yet."
R. Sharmila Devi, wife of Sairam who is also visually impaired adds, "We have made several rounds of the postal department at Berhampur, the Directorate of Accounts and Post in Cuttack and the Post Master
General office in Bhubaneswar but there has been no reprieve for us as of now. Hence we were forced to appeal at the Central Administrative Tribunal at Cuttack."
Sairam says, "On September 14, 2014, the Central Administrative Tribunal after weighing our appeals ordered the Postal Department to compensate us with the family pension at an annual interest of nine percent."
It has been more than four months now but the postal department is yet to act upon the orders of the Central Administrative Tribunal.
The Zee Kalinga Helpline team and iamin after going deeper into the matter found that the pension amount has been put on hold by the Directorate of Accounts and Post located at Mahanadi Vihar in Cuttack.
Abhimanyu Nayak, Deputy Director of Accounts and Post, informed that they were unaware of the discrepancy in pension fund despatch. He promised to ease the process and help the blind couple.
He added that certain documents have not been sent by the Berhampur Superintendent of Post and this has amounted to the delay in processing of the pension.
With the help of Kalinga Helpline Team and iamin the relevant documents have been forwarded to the Directorate of Accounts and Post in Cuttack by the Superintendent of Post, Berhampur.
By helping them, Zee Kalinga Helpline team and iamin have provided Sairam and his wife a new hope.
