The Odisha government has given top priority to the development of tribal dominated areas, said chief minister Naveen Patnaik.
Addressing a public meeting at Sunabeda during his whirlwind visit to Koraput district on Tuesday, Patnaik said as his government is aware of the plight of the poor people it has launched several welfare programmes for their socio-economic development.
He sought the cooperation of the people to make Sunabeda a model Muncipality in the state.
During his visit, the chief minister inaugurated a 100-bedded girl’s hostel of Semiliguda College, a 200-bedded boys hostel of Sunabeda Ashram Vidyalaya, a 300-bedded hostel of Manas Vidyalaya at Koraput, a 100-bedded girl’s hostel of B.Ed College at Koraput and a Skill Development Training Centre at Sunabeda.
At Sunabeda, he laid the foundations stones for a community centre at Municipal office premises, Hanuman Market complex, Church Colony, Rajiv Colony and Ganjam Colony.
At Semiliguda, Patnaik laid the foundation stones for a community library, Bhanja Colony and a community centre at Kodigan.
He also provided financial assistance to several self-help groups (SHGs), beneficiaries under Madhubabu Pension Yojana, and the physically challenged under Madhubabu Yojana.
Besides, the chief minister also provided a number of equipment to several youth clubs and other organisations.
Among others, Energy minister Pranab Prakash Das, Pottangi MLA Prafulla Kumar Pangi, Koraput collector Yamini Sarangi, PD, DRDA, Samarth Verma, former Koraput MP Jayaram Pangi, former minister Rabi Narayan Nanda and former MLA Gupta Prasad Das accompanied the chief minister during his visit.
