Three more day care centres for differently abled started functioning in the district on Tuesday.
Inaugurating
a centre at the Government Higher Secondary School, Esanai, Collector
Darez Ahmed said that such centres had already been functioning at
Ammapalayam, Veppur, Chettikulam, Kolakkanatham, Thazhuthazhai,
Kaikalathur, and Vaalikandapuram. On Tuesday, the centres were
inaugurated at Kunnam and Keezhaperambalur. Thus 10 such centres have
started functioning in the district, he added.
He
pointed out that all these centres have facilities to benefit
differently abled children, especially the mentally retarded and those
suffering from cerebral palsy. Equipment worth Rs.3.35 lakh have been
set up in each centre for their training.
Autorickshaw
facility is being provided for these children to visit the centre.
Apart from providing them noon meal, they are given milk and biscuit
twice a day.
Equipment to give them trunk balance,
trampoline to provide training for their muscles, standing board to help
them stand, ankle exerciser for giving training to calf muscle and been
bags for sitting training are provided.
Besides, the centre would have a stimulator, wax bath, supinator pronator, pulley, bolster, beg board, and sand bag.
Those who took part in the programme included S.Yamunabai, officer for the welfare of differently abled.
Equipment worth Rs.3.35 lakh have been set up in each centre for the benefit of differently abled children.
