The Tamil Nadu Association for Rights of All Types of
Differently Abled and Caregivers has appealed to the district
administration to organise grievances day meetings exclusively to
address problems faced by the differently abled.
up in arms:A group of visually challenged people arriving at the
collectorate to present a petition to the Collector in the city on
Monday.
Officials
from all government departments should attend such meetings to redress
the grievances of the differently abled expeditiously, the association
demanded in a representation submitted to the District Collector on
Monday. The association also sought the shifting of the District
Differently Abled Welfare office to the Collector’s Office campus. The
representation, submitted by V.V.Krishnamurthy, district secretary of
the association, also demanded a district-level monitoring committee to
oversee the redressal of grievances of the differently abled.
Earlier,
a group of visually challenged persons, representing the Loubra Blind
and Disabled Welfare Centre, presented a petition demanding allotment of
house site pattas to their members. They also regretted that some
unscrupulous elements were exploiting visually challenged persons by
asking them to sing in public places for raising money. They are
virtually used for begging but paid a pittance, they contended and
demanded a ban on such practice.
