The physically challenged contestants hogged the
limelight on the concluding day of the three-day national level body
building championship here on Sunday. Although some of the ace
bodybuilders from across the country left the audience spellbound with
their splendid performance in their respective categories, the
physically challenged contestants remained cynosure of all eyes during
the three-day contest. The national level contest saw the participation
of nearly 350 contestants in different categories from all over the
country.
Of this, over 40 contestants competed in the physically challenged category.

Unfazed
by their physical disability, the contestants flexed their muscles and
put up a good show during the bodybuilding demonstration. Their
dedication and spirited performance earned them wide praise from the
audience at Bhatka Ramadasu Kala Kshetram here.
Yashwanth
Kumar Hirwani, a physically challenged contestant from Dhamtari in
Chhattisgarh, was one among the talented bodybuilders who had received
much appreciation from the audience. Hirwani won a gold medal in the
physically challenged category at the national-level bodybuilding
contest held in Maharashtra last year.
“I developed
penchant for bodybuilding ever since my brother Ramesh Kumar won the Mr
Chhattisgarh title in general category several years ago,” Yashwanth
said.
Speaking to
The Hindu
, he said, “I had devoted most of my leisure time in mastering the art
in a local gym under the supervision of my brother. I won several medals
in the State level and national level bodybuilding contests,” and
exuding confidence said that he will emerge triumphant in the final
round (physically challenged category) of the current championship
slated to be held late on Sunday night.
