The district administration has designed a programme to
provide assistance to the differently abled through a single window
system.
By organising special camps in all the 11
block headquarters, the beneficiaries can meet the heads of departments
at one point and redress their grievances in the presence of Collector
K.Nanthakumar.
In the first camp held in Kamudhi on
January 5, over 1,300 differently abled people were surprised to see the
Collector and officers of all departments under one roof. “We felt that
they need not visit the district headquarters and step into 10 to 15
departments to seek assistance,” Mr Nanthakumar said.
He
said the heads of various departments including Transport, Rural
Development, District Central Cooperative Bank, Integrated Child
Development Scheme and Social Welfare deserved appreciation as they make
their services available on Saturdays. Besides, doctors attend the
camps to examine the differently abled and treat the needy. In the first
two camps held in Kamudhi and Paramakudi, the District Central
Cooperative Bank had issued loans for self employment at four per cent
differential rate of interest and the Rural Development Department
received about 130 applications seeking green houses.
