! Start up of Transport Helpline for PwDDs in Tamil Nadu !

Transport helpline for differently-abled sought

The Tamil Nadu Association for the Rights of All Types of Differently Abled and Caregivers has appealed to the government to launch a ‘Transport Helpline’ to facilitate the differently-abled, senior citizens and women to seek assistance in times of need.
At the State committee meeting of the association, held in Virudhunagar recently, it was resolved to urge the government to introduce the helpline, in the backdrop of the complaint that, on many occasions, the crew of State Transport Corporation buses was not extending support to the differently-abled passengers. Though the government had announced facilities such as subsidised bus passes, separate seats and free travel for the differently-abled, it is alleged that they were often humiliated by some conductors and drivers who were not aware of the welfare schemes.
