The committee for studying the
issues of differently-abled children has recommended a uniform
curriculum and teaching methodology in schools for these children.
The
committee headed by M.K. Jayaraj, Principal of the C.H. Mohammed Koya
Memorial State Institute for the Mentally Challenged, submitted a report
to Education Minister P.K. Abdu Rabb at a function held in his chamber
on Friday.
The committee
recommended that a centre should be opened in each district to provide
job-oriented rehabilitation for differently-abled persons above the age
of 18. The Government can even think of a rehabilitation village for the
benefit of these persons, the committee said.
Another
recommendation was on opening special primary health centres to cater to
the differently-abled children. The Education Minister, while accepting
the report, said that the Government was planning to introduce a
mechanism to streamline the functioning of educational institutions for
differently- abled children including those in unaided sectors. The
minister added that the report would be placed before the cabinet for
further action.
