Blind
voters from Curchorem, Quepem, Sanvordem and Sanguem constituencies
were given special training on how to cast their vote on April 12, on
the Braille-enabled electronic voting machines, EVMs.
Wasant Kabadi, a trainer from the national association for the blind (NAB), conducted the training-cum-demonstration session for the 13 blind voters from the four assembly segments at the Quepem mamlatdar's office. Assistant returning officer of Curchorem constituency Agnelo Fernandes and mamlatdar of Quepem Manoj Khorgaonkar were present.
Khorgaonkar told TOI that only a few blind persons have been trained as some have refused to exercise their franchise. A voter from Betul with physical problems will be trained at his residence.
Kabadi said he had trained 10 voters from Cuncolim, Benaulim, Margao and Fatorda in Margao on Tuesday morning.
The symbols of the candidates with their numbers will be explained to these voters on polling day. They will select the numbers by the sense of touch and press the button on the EVM.
