President Mamnoon Hussain said children with disabilities are as
important as any other person in the society. He was addressing a
function in connection with World Autism Awareness Day in Islamabad
today.
The President underscored the need for putting in place a robust mechanism for welfare and protection of children with disabilities. He asked media to take a leading role in spreading information about Autism.
Expressing unwavering support of the government to special children, he said the government is working actively to free Pakistan of the crippling polio virus. He said religious scholars are being involved to ensure success of anti polio vaccination campaigns.
The President said there is paucity of data on the number of people who suffer from different disabilities in the country. It is indeed a matter of concern that we are yet to put in place a strong and robust mechanism in our society that offers full protection to the children with special needs, he concluded.
