T M N Deepak of the Federation of Tamil Nadu Differently Abled said they were shocked by Modi's remarks that the UPA government at the Centre was 'deaf, dumb and lame.'

Modi make the remark while he was addressing an election rally at Jehanabad in Bihar on Thursday.

"These are remarks which are highly uncivilized and derogatory to persons with disabilities," Deepak said in a press release from the federation.

He said many BPJ leaders were repeatedly using these terminologies, "which are potential to precipitate emotional pain as they tantamount to insult persons with disabilities".

"On the one hand, BJP manifesto patronizes words such as 'specially abled,' and on other hand, its usage of analogies with terminologies such as deaf, dump and lame is highly contradictory to each other," said Deepak .

The association has also urged the Election Commission to take action against such remarks on disabled communities.
