A physically challenged girl was allegedly beaten up in public at Nawanshahr on Wednesday by the owner of a computer centre, where she studied MSc in IT and PGDCA courses. She had reportedly gone to the centre to get her degrees when the incident took place.

A couple allegedly came to the girl’s rescue — who was thrashed in a busy market area — and called the police. According to sources, the centre owner had given the girl fake degrees for her courses, for which she had paid around Rs 50,000.

The girl told mediapersons that the centre owner had been promising her that she would get genuine degrees for the last five years but nothing has happened. She,however, added that she had pardoned the centre owner and didn’t want to pursue the matter any further.

When asked whether any action has been taken against the centre owner,Nawanshahr SSP Dhanpreet Kaur said: “Neither did the girl lodge a complaint nor had she undergone a medical test. She only complained that she is yet to get her degrees, for which she paid a fee of Rs 50,000. The computer centre owner has agreed to return her fee and the matter was resolved.”
