SHRC: Remove Additional Steps on Buses : THIRUVANANTHAPURAM

The Kerala State Human Rights Commission (KSHRC) has directed the authorities to remove with immediate effect additional steps installed on buses for cleaners.

Kerala State Human Rights Commission member K E Gangadharan passed the order on a complaint from one Kaanam Kunjiraman from Kannur who said that the additional step for cleaners was causing inconvenience to physically challenged persons entering the buses.

The complainant said that physically challenged lottery sellers were finding it difficult to enter the buses due to these additional steps.

The Commission had earlier sought a clarification from the Regional Transport Officer, Kannur who said that installing steps for cleaners was against the rules.

“Authorities should ensure that there is no hindrance for physically challenged persons using public transport,” the Kerala State Human Rights Commission said.
