'Army ready for any challenge on borders' : Lucknow

The Army on Friday reiterated that it is capable and empowered to tackle any development vis-a-vis the Chinese intrusion that took place at Daulat Beg Oldie in Ladakh in April this year.

Speaking to reporters at the head quarters central command, general officer commanding-in-chief, central command, lieutenant general Anil Chait said, "We are not helpless, but the response to anything which happens on the border is not purely a military response. And we are certain that whatever the nation, the government of the day wants, we would be in a position to do it very effectively and in the most competent manner, so that such things do not happen."

On the status of the probe ordered by the Army into the anomalies reported at Sitapur's military farm, the GOC-in-C, Central Command, said, "The case came before us in April. At present the crop is under the jurisdiction of the court. The matter is sub-judice, so it would not be right for me to comment. However, the interest of the nation and of the government is completely secured, and very soon stringent action would be taken against those found guilty. And I admit that there have been mistakes on our part."

Prior to this, lieutenant general Chait formally inaugurated the Surya Medical Helpline, a 24x7 toll free service offering expert first aid and life-saving advice on a multitude of medical emergencies, including accident injuries, burn injuries, chest pain, seizures etc. People can also send a MMS of injury or the patient to specialist army doctors on mobile number 8009833388. They can also contact the toll free helpline number 18001805558 and mobile number 8009833388.Initially started as a pilot project for Lucknow last month, the service now has been extended to all the seven states of Central Command under the motto 'Your Heath, Our Concern'. The objective of this initiative is to provide immediate professional and sound telephonic medical advice in life-threatening medical emergencies as rapid emergency response to prevent mortalities and to act as an interface between the patient and doctor till his arrival.

The patient or his kin can not only explain the symptoms of the patient/injury, but can also send MMS or other photos of the clinical conditions of the patient directly to the specialist on the mobile number. Expert doctors will render advice after examining the image of injury on their LCD screens.
