ATS officer man dupes senior citizen, held : Mumbai

The Meghwadi police arrested an anti-terrorism squad (ATS) sub-inspector and along with his four of his accomplices on Saturday for cheating a senior citizen of Rs 45 lakh after promising him a flat under the chief minister's quota for his physically challenged son.

The accused forged documents to convince the victim, S K Irani (60), that he had been allotted a flat chief minister had allotted him a flat at a plush building in Andheri (W).

Irani, a contractor who resides in Andheri (E), grew suspicious suspected on the accused after the accused avoided showing him the property but insisted on getting paid the remaining sum of Rs 17 lakh. They avoided to show him the flat and insisted for the remaining money of Rs 17 lakh.

The victim is small time contractor and lived at Andheri (east) along with his family, including a 35-year-old handicap son. Upadhyay told the victime that there is a CM's quota under which flats can be allotted to physically challenged persons. He told Irani that one needs to pay 5% of the property's market rate under such allotments and in January, assured the victim that his associates accomplices would help him in getting a flat for Rs 62 lakh. The victim was also told that Bhosale was a retired police officer who now looks after the CM's security.

However, Irani, who made a payment of Rs 45 lakh in instalments, was never shown the flat. to the accused convinced with the assurance and paid Rs 45 lakh in different installment. Recently, the accused had given Irani allotment documents of the flat and demanded remaining payment. Irani insisted them to show him the property but they avoided it.

On making inquiries at the building, the victim discovered that he had been conned. He then asked the accused to return his money, but was threatened. Irani finally approached the police.
