Blind car rally to be held in city : Vadodra , Gujrat

Over 100 blind men from Gujarat will drive cars through the lanes and roads of Vadodara for the first time on June 30. The unique car rally has been organized by an NGO, Baroda Round Table (BRT) to take up the cause of blind persons. The blind men will be given a pre-decided route of the rally in the Braille language that will help them in guiding the vehicle.

Such rally has been organized in Ahmedabad in the past and now BRT has decided to introduce it in the city to display the abilities of blind persons. The organizers claimed that such rally may help some blind men get gainful employment as well. "Blind men are very able and possess lot of skills. But many of them are not able to find good jobs as the firms fail to see their skills. We decided to organize this rally in the city to showcase their abilities," said Amit Bhatnagar, mentor of BRT.

Bhatnagar said that the cars will have a blind person sitting beside the driver. The blind men will be given a map of the entire route in Braille language and they will have to give directions to the driver. "The rally will start from Atladara area and head towards Makarpura and then wind through Old City areas covering a total of 45 kilometers. The driver won't be allowed to decipher the Braille language and he will drive on directions of the blind person sitting beside him," Bhatnagar added.

Registrations for the event will start from Sunday and majority of the blind persons participating in the rally would be from Ahmedabad.

"What makes this rally stand apart is that those driving the vehicle would be either businessmen or top officials of big firms in the city. When the entrepreneurs will experience the skills of blind persons they would be encouraged to hire such people in their organization," Bhatnagar told TOI.
