IIT aspirants who took the revised Joint Entrance Examination (JEE-Advanced) on Sunday felt Physics in Paper-2 much difficult than Paper-1. About 2,900 students from Tamil Nadu took the test at eight centres in Chennai and Madurai. Several students with whom this correspondent spoke opined that they had several unexpected and twisted questions from Physics in paper 2.

Satish, an IIT aspirant said, he had to take more time to answer questions from Physics rather than other sections. “I know that JEE will not easy but never expected it to be this tough. Overall quality of the paper is good and I am certain of clearing it but with much difficulty”, he said.

Aakash Chaudhary, director, Aakaash institute said, Physics section in Paper-1 was of medium difficulty. There were a few traps to entice a student to commit mistakes and mark the wrong answers. For example, there were three questions with answers close to the correct one.

Out of 20 questions in the Physics section, three were of very easy level, two of hard level and remaining had medium difficulty. The average score would be about 35 out of a total of 60.
Chemistry had several thought provoking questions. Some of the questions were very tricky and required in-depth knowledge.

Majority of the questions were direct. Out of 20 problems, four were of easy level, 10 of moderate and six were much difficult to crack. The average score would be around 30 out of a total of 60.

Like always, the mathematics section remains the deciding section of the IIT entrance.

This year too Maths in paper 1 was of relatively tough, as compared to Physics & Chemistry. There were at least 8 to 10 questions out of 20, in which students could commit mistake in very easy way.

Most of the questions are from mixed concepts and taking more than expected time for finding accurate (exact) answer. Students felt the paper to be lengthy, but were balanced with respect to weightage of class XI and XII portion.

The major effect of Paper-I was that very first time IITs have introduced negative marking on multiple choice questions and integer type questions, that made the paper tough. The average score in this section should be around 24 out of a total of 60.
