Spreading mass awareness on the need for eradication of
Poliomyelitis, a crippling disease of childhood caused by polio virus,
Everwin Matriculation Higher Secondary School in Kolathur created a
record recently for the second year in a row, administering polio oral
drops to 9,150 kids under the age of five. The current world record is
6,215 vaccines made at California in the US in October 2010. Everwin
passed this record in February last year with 7,031 kids. The school
management says it is not interested in registering with the Guinness.

Sponsored
prizes like baby soap, face powder, lunch box etc. were given away to
all kids on the occasion. This is the first phase of the intensive
‘Pulse Polio Campaign’ organised by the Tamil Nadu Government to ensure
that the State continued to remain Polio-free for the ninth successive
year.
To mark the occasion, the management of the
school chipped in its mite to the cause, by involving its teachers and
students in the campaign.
“We attach importance to
child healthcare adhering to the ‘sound mind and sound body’ principle.
In the last 15 years 4,000 kids were administered polio vaccines. We
have on our own 1,400 kids below five years studying in our KG section.
Their parents brought other kids from their neighbourhood as we
requested them to spread the message”, said V. Mageswari, CEO.
