Government agency for women and the differently-abled receives national award

 The Puducherry Corporation for Development of Women and Differently Abled Persons Ltd has received the ‘Best State Channelising Agency of National Handicapped Finance and Development Corporation National Award’.

According to the citation given to the Corporation, they have made “innovative changes in its implementation strategy during the year 2011-12”.
During the year, the corporation received 255 projects from persons with disabilities, of which 254 were sanctioned. They have also utilised 90 per cent of the funds received from the NHFDC. They have also recovered 69.4 per cent of the loans and a total of 235 differently-abled persons were benefited, a release said.
“The corporation has established itself as a fine model of efficiency and innovation,” the citation says.
On Wednesday, the award was received from President Pranab Mukherjee by Welfare Minister P. Rajavelu, on behalf of the corporation, at a function held in New Delhi. The award was given by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. Union Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment Kumari Selja, and Minister of State for the same ministry Napoleon were also at the function.
