Houses for disabled allotted to others : BANGALORE

Twenty-three-year-old differently abled Arjun Sha’s father Mr . A Suresh has been running from pillar to post since 2004 to get the possession of the house which was allotted to his son under the differently abled quota.

According to Suresh, the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) allocated the house, that was allotted to his son, to someone else.

Like Arjun Sha, 74 other differently abled people too have not been able to take possession of the houses that were registered in their names by different government bodies.

Suresh says the title deed of the house in survey number 109 of Singapura village in the erstwhile Byatrayanapura CMC was made on December 20, 2002 and the house was registered in the name of his son on June 8, 2004.

Suresh had to struggle to raise Rs 8,000 that was to be paid towards the house, which is worth nearly Rs 7 lakh today.

The house has been allotted to someone else after Byatrayanpura CMC was merged with Bangalore Mahanagara Palike while forming the BBMP. 37 such houses were allotted to the differently abled people in Singapura alone.

State Commissioner for persons with disabilities K V Rajanna said, “Around 75 such cases are pending before us. Different government agencies including the BBMP and slum clearance board allocated the houses to some other people that were allotted to the differently abled in Laggere and Singapura. We are holding trial of such cases and I am likely to pass orders on them very soon.”

When contacted, BBMP Commissioner M Lakshminarayana said, “Houses for the differently abled are also allotted when we construct houses for the economically weaker sections. Nothing can be said unless the documents are scrutinised. I will look into the issue and do whatever is necessary to set the things right.”
