A panel discussion on 'Importance of
differently abled persons in Politics' was organized by National
Institute of Professionals (NIP) NGO here on Friday.
*********************************************************************************
The panel discussion was joined by eminent
personalities like, Tathagata Roy from Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP),
Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury from Trinamool Congress (TMC), along with NIP
member Sumit Agarwal and others.
“Disables are always treated as outcast in the society; they are not
allowed to mix with others. They are treated in special schools, special
doctors and given special treatments. But the persons who are going
through all these always have the idea that they are separated from the
whole society,” said Agarwal.
“I on behalf of all the disabled people want to say that all the members
should be given equal importance; they should flourish in their life.
We are also a part of this society. I want that disabled people should
be given seats in politics. If they come, then they can accelerate the
health care system more,” he added.
"Nearly 5 percent population of India is suffering from some form of
physical disabilities. Dipankar Roy devoted himself to leftist politics
and travelled all over India, mostly alone. He was known for his
education and oratory. Sadhan Chandra became the MP in 1967. Both of
them lost their sight either in childhood or by birth."
"The only solution may come from the initiative of physically challenged
people themselves. Wherever they are, at schools, colleges, offices or
in the community, they have to participate in the movements for the
interests of their fellow brothers," he said.
Agarwal added, "In this process the common people will understand that
the disabled people are not aliens. They are also capable of sharing
their feelings and voicing their protests."
