Better facilities sought for differently-abled people : Guwahati

For the welfare of differently-abled people, the ShishuSarothi, an NGO, in association with the National Trust, has called for collaboration between civil society and the government in order to create awareness among the people and aid the unprivileged.

During a Local Level Committee ( LLC) meet on Thursday, organized by the NGO in association with the National Trust, the NGO discussed the need for partnership between the government and civil society which will help their cause. The National Trust is under the Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.
The chairperson of the National Trust, Poonam Natarajan, the chief executive officer, A K Lal, the executive director, Arman Ali, among other officials along with State Nodal Agency Centre (SNAC) from the seven states of the northeast, representatives of district collectorates and registered organizations under the trust, participated.

The chairperson spoke about the national support system for people with disabilities and the implication of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the people with disabilities.

"A person with disability has the right to education, right to job and the right to property," said chairperson Natarajan.
