Blind woman allegedly molested by four men

A blind woman was allegedly molested and wrongfully restrained by four unidentified men in suburban Juhu who threatened her to withdraw an extortion complaint against them, police said today.

The 37-year-old woman, whose husband is an Ayurveda expert and is also blind, was stopped by four persons while she was travelling in an autorickshaw on June 26,.

The husband had complained at Juhu police station around mid June that he had received extortion calls from unidentified men.

To enquire about the complaint and record her statement, his wife and their son had gone to the police station on June 26, police added.

While she was returning to her home located near Cooper Hospital in an autorickshaw from the police station, the vehicle was stopped by the four accused, police said.

The victim claimed that she was subsequently molested and kidnapped by the accused, police said.

She then returned to the police station and informed the police about the molestation. Police had recorded the woman's statement in this regard and after a preliminary probe, an FIR was registered against the four men yesterday.

The unknown accused had been booked under IPC sections 354 (Assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 341 (Punishment for wrongful restraint), 504 ( Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), 506 (Punishment for criminal intimidation), 509 (Word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) and 34 (Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention), police said.
