The District Central Library’s initiative to deliver
books to differently abled persons at their doorsteps was inaugurated on
Friday by R. Manoharan, Government Chief Whip, in the presence of P.
Kumar, MP.
The service will initially be available
for differently abled persons residing within a radius of 2 km of the
District Central Library near Singarathope on the West Boulevard Road.
Differently abled persons will be eligible to have books of their choice
from the library delivered at their doorstep once a week. Mr. Manoharan
distributed prizes to winners of essay writing competitions. An
awareness programme on civil service exams was held with R. Uma
Maheswari, who has cleared the IAS exam, briefing aspiring students.
Mr. Kumar, J. Srinivasan, and N.S. Bhoopathi, councillors, and
Vellamandi Natarajan, president, Tiruchi Town Cooperative Bank, enrolled
themselves as patrons of the library by contributing Rs. 5,000 each.
Major Aravandi of the Readers Circle of the library donated books.
