The
head of the animal welfare department had no clue how many animals were
treated in various vet clinics run by the government. The officer who
heads minority welfare department admitted that loans with low interest rate were given to those who offered commission.
There were enough reasons and officials to flummox Bangalore city development minister R Ramalinga Reddy at a review meeting of Bangalore urban district on Saturday. "Do you go to the office at all? Next time when you come, be prepared. Otherwise just rest at home," an angry Reddy told the officials.
On filtered sand mafia still reaching construction sites in Bangalore, Reddy sought to know why no police action was taken and only penalties collected.

"How can you not file police complaints against those who are involved in filtered sand mafia? If the accused is found guilty, it leads to two years of imprisonment. The review meeting that was not called over the past three years was tough to digest for some officials who hardly had any clue of what was happening in the departments they headed.
An officer from the directorate of disabled finally said that only 2,000 persons benefited from the welfare scheme in Bangalore urban district, whereas the number of disabled population runs up to 95,000. The disabled pension also reaches only 43,000 persons. "How come you are not bothered about the remaining 93,000 physically challenged individuals?" the minister asked.
Discussions also came up about Ashakirana, an NGO which was allegedly supplying unhygienic mid-day meals to over 90 schools in the district.
Pension work hit by election
Over 8,000 pension applications are lying uncleared in Bangalore urban district. Officials told the minister that they were busy with election work for the last three months but would look into the cases within a month.
"We could not look into the applications during elections. There are applications from widows, senior citizens, physically challenged. The verification process is pending. We shall look into the cases within one month," said Bangalore Urban district DC GC Prakash.
